Location – Kumon Math, Issaquah Highlands, 1036 NE PARK DRIVE, ISSAQUAH, WA 98029 MAP 

We had 14 players for 2 swiss sections on New Years Eve Day on 12/31. Sloan came back from USC and swept section 1 with Wesley 2nd. David won section 2 with 3 points with Alex & Ryan M second.

On Sunday 12/11 I held a lesson on Tactics (Double Attack & Pins), folllowed by 3 rated sections. Wesley won section 1, Matthew & Ananth won section 2, and Daniel & Nicola tied in section  Results are be posted here soon.

On Sunday 2/12 I'll hold a lesson (Topic Art of Attack) plus  rated Quad/Swiss or Blitz tournaments starting at 2:00pm.
Rated Quads/Swiss: 3 or more games vs. closely rated opponents, G/30 or 25/5).

The location for all lesson classes & tournaments is Kumon Math, in Issaquah Highlands, between Lladro Café, Subway and Sip restaurant; park either on the street or in the parking lot behind it. Come eat at surrounding restaurants, and get free Wifi access at nearby Lladro cafe.


I offer a Group Chess Class taught in a classroom setting in the Issaquah / Sammamish, WA area (east of Seattle). My goal is to improve your chess playing skill through in-depth analysis and explanation of intermediate to advanced chess concepts. I vary the content among opening, middlegame and endgame topics.

Target Student Audience
: Older elementary, middle school, high school. Adults welcome.
Date: Typically Sunday afternoons or evenings, 1-2x a month

Possible Times:
6:00pm-9:00pm max (Quads only)
2:00pm to 6:00pm max (Lesson + Quads at 3pm)
(please check-in and arrive 5-10 minutes early)
Lesson Format: About 45 minutes lecture on a chess topic using a demo board, then 45 minutes of open play, optionally using a chess ladder, applying concepts learned. Equipment provided, handouts and snacks sometimes provided. 
Tournament Format: NWSRS-rated tournaments (either Quads with 3 games vs. other players in a 4 player section, or Swiss paired events where players play others with same score). Tournaments are held Sunday afternoons or evenings with chess-themed prizes for the winners.
